-Identify The Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics

-Insert possible resources (e.g. images, videos, sound) that would aid people in complying with these rules.

-Address the following questions within this information wall.

Q1. Which of the Ten Ethical Computing Guidelines do you think students violate most often?

Q2. Why do you think these violations occur?

Q3. What do you think could be done to reduce or eliminate such unethical behavior?

Out of the Ten Ethical Computing Guidelines, the guideline I assume is violated the most is 1. "Thou shalt not use a computer to harm other people". As technology continues to evolve and advance, more people are using technology and are more inclined to use it for selfish reasons. For example, on the show "Catfish," hosted by Nev Shulman, he and a co-star for the season are emailed by thousands of people who fear they are being "catfished" by the partner that they are romantically involved with. There are some cases where the alleged "catfish" is exactly who they say they are, but in most cases, social media users sign on to a platform pretending to be another person for financial gain or the need for emotional support due to low self-esteem. People make the conscious choice to harm the person on the other side of the phone. Whether it's pretending to be someone else online or intentional cyberbullying, there are so many other ways that people use to harm others whether on social media or with the use of their computer.

These violations occur because computer users go beyond their computer means and what they have access to. Violations occur for some type of gain. It is easier for someone desperate to finish an assignment that they've waited until the last minute to complete to "appropriate other people's intellectual output." Social media is so prevalent in everyday life that it is easy "to bear false witness" due to the amount of false information that is floating around on the internet. These commandments are intentional behaviors that require people to come up with their work, only access their files, give credit when it is due, and make good decisions based on the social consequences of their designs. Those who do not follow these rules are lazy and seek quick-effortless solutions to their problems.

To reduce or eliminate unethical behavior, security systems or measures have to be set in place in the workplace or programmed within computers so that computer users are not allowed to go beyond their means. If a computer user were to go beyond their means, a warning should be immediately sent to them and monitored for a certain time to ensure there is no continuous violation. Next, computer users, whether for personal or business reasons, should go through basic, educational training on computer use and the consequences of violating the Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics.
