Veins- one way valves toward the heart, mostly carrying deoxygenated blood back to the heart and eventually the lungs.

Venules- carries the metabolic wastes from the capillaries to veins following exchange at the level of tissues

Capillaries- smallest of all vessels, exchanges nutrients and oxygen with tissues at a cellular level.

Arterioles- carries oxygen rich blood to the capillaries

Arteries- Receptive to stretch, these vessels normally are muscular and can contract and dilate based on oxygen and other metabolic demands of the body. Mostly carry oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the body.

Tricuspid Valve- Between the right atrium and right ventricle.

Pulmonary Valve- Between the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery.

Aortic Valve- Between the left ventricle and the aorta.

Right Ventricle- Recieves deoxygenated blood from the Right Atrium and pumps blood into the pulmonary vasculature via the pulmonary valve into the pulmonary artery.

Left Atrium- Recieves oxygenated blood from the pulmonary vein. Pumps blood into the left ventricle during diastole via the bicuspid valve and into the aortic sinuses for coronary circulation.

Left ventricle- Recieves oxygenated blood from the left atrium via the bicuspid valve. Pumps blood into the body during systole via the aorta.

There are three major layers of the heart wall. They are the endocardium, or the inner layer of the heart tissue, the myocardium, the middle muscular layer, and the epicardium, the outer layer that surrounds the other tissue.
