Often called ‘autonomous learning’ it is defined as the ability to take charge of one’s own learning and it is associated with students taking an active role in the learning process. The autonomous learner is viewed as an independent self-directed and life-long student. These students, therefore, do not confine themselves to the material from the lesson, but rather take an active role in seeking and processing new information to apply in a wider context.
