History of McDonald's

McDonald's, who doesn't know it. McDonald's is the largest burger and fast food chain in the world. McDonald's is often seen as the ultimate symbol of the American culture.

The first McDonalds restaurant was opened by brothers Dick and Mac McDonald in San Bernardino, California in 1960. The McDonald restaurant only really became known in 1948, when the brothers introduced their "speede service system". This system was an assembly line production system for hamburgers without service. It was a traveling salesman named Ray Kroc who came up with the idea to open more branches McDonalds was born out of this, and the formula that was devised during the test is still used today. In 1955 Ray took over the rights of the then small hamburger chain and expanded the company. He opened up the first restaurant for McDonald’s System, Inc., a predecessor of McDonald’s Corp. in Des Plaines, Illinois in April, 1955.

Ray Kroc’s vision was that there would be 1,000 McDonald’s restaurants in the United States in the future. McDonald’s continued to grow and expand into international markets beginning in 1967 opening in Canada and Puerto Rico. Today, the company has over 36,000 restaurants in over 100 nations.

Religion

In America, the influence of religion is much bigger than in many western European countries. Faith and Church play a major role in the American community. Nearly two-thirds of Americans consider their belief "very important." In addition to God, the vast majority believe in heaven, in angels, the devil, and Satan, and even in the mythical Big Foot, the North American variant of the Yeti.

Approximately 76 percent of the Americans are Christians. The percentage of the inhabitants who are religious is much higher than in comparable countries with comparable prosperity. An explanation for this may lie in the personal uncertainty that comes forward from the hard American society and the support that a particular religion can offer in this.

Within Christianity, about 55 percent of Americans are Protestants. This may explain why there has been only one Catholic President since independence in 1776. Namely John F Kennedy. Unlike the Catholic, American Protestantism has many different movements. With Catholics, many different immigrants with differences in spirituality all belong to the same Catholic church.

Mississippi is the most religious state in the country, with 63% of the adult population described as highly religious, saying that religion is important to them and attending religious services almost every week, while New Hampshire, with only 20% of the adult population described as very religious, is the least religious state.

9/11 Attacks

Nineteen years ago, on 9/11, more than 60% percent of the Americans watched the worst terror attack ever in the U.S. on television. On this date, two planes collided in the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, located on the southern tip of Manhattan in New York and another plane in the Pentagon, near Washington DC. A fourth plane crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. All four passenger planes flew within the normal duty schedule. Two aircraft were owned by American Airlines and two by United Airlines.

According to official reports, the attacks were carried out by nineteen members of Al Qaida from the Middle East. These terrorist attacks are considered to be the greatest in history. The attacks killed nearly 3,000 people from more than 90 countries. Another 24 missing persons are believed to have died.

Since World War II, Americans have felt relatively safe in their country and had never expected anything like this to happen. The picture of the murders of nearly 3,000 people was therefore extremely shocking to the whole country. “I think that up until that time, perhaps people were more optimistic or certainly had a sense that it couldn't happen here. Terrorist attacks were something that happened overseas, but not in the United States on our soil,” Until that day, the concept of fearing violence had never taken a part of most people's daily lives in the United States. After the attacks, people lived in fear. They did not feel that safe anymore, they were scared of what would happen next. The violence level also largely increased after the 9/11 attacks. Young Americans, that are born after 9/11, have grown up in a world where violence is increasingly common. More than 230 shootings in schools have occurred after 1999, which is shocking.

The Drag Race is an American raging popular talent search program in which they are looking for “America's next drag superstar”. Performers of any sexual orientation and gender identity are eligible to audition. In season five, the first contestant came out as a trans woman during the competition. Many followed after.

Drag queen and singer RuPaul is the creator of this reality program. RuPaul is also on the jury and plays the role of host and mentor. Due to the increasing popularity of the program, there have also been some spin-offs over the years. An example of this is RuPaul's Drag Race All-Stars. In this program, the dropouts from previous seasons return to compete against each other. Several countries have already made their own version of this program, unfortunately, the Netherlands is not yet one of them.

The show has become the highest-rated television program on Logo TV and is broadcast internationally, including in the UK, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, and Israel. The show brought in no fewer than four Emmys to RuPaul.

RuPaul's program caused a revival of show trafficking worldwide. The Amsterdam drag houses are also a result of this program. "Drag houses" are houses inhabited by small groups of transvestites led by an often older transvestite. In 2015, there were approximately 10 carrier houses in Amsterdam.
