Chapter 1:
1. Near the end, it is mentioned that you must talk about your emotions with others. What do you think is the point of that?

Answer:
The point of talking about your emotions with others is to help people understand the reason why they could be feeling a certain way for the wrong reason like how Lily was mad that that another child was breaking rules, but it turned out he was from another community.

2. Throughout the chapter, everyone talks in a formal and cold manner. Why do you think they talk like this?

Answer:
The reason why everyon talks in a formal and cold manner is because the community has no feelings. Feelings and many other things were taken away for Sameness.

Chapter 2:
1. Why do you think that the community only does the special ceremonies of the children in December?

Answer:
The reason they do the special ceremonies only in December is because that is their mark of a new year.

2. What is your opinion about the fact that you are given a child not of your own?

Answer:
I think that this is absurd because children are born from Birthmothers and then distributed to families that the Elders think are fit for them.

Chapter 3:
1. Jonas had an incident with the apple while using it to play with Asher. What do you think this signifies?

I think this signifies that there is something special about him that the others don't seem to have since only Jonas had noticed and Asher didn't.

2. Why do you think Birthmother is an Assignment and that you can't have your own child?

Answer:
The reason why you can't have your own child is because the community turned everything to Sameness, there is no love so they must have females tasked with reproducing to sustain the population. Another reason why people can't choose to have their own child is to avoid overpopulation.

Chapter 4:
1. It is said that nobody knows what happens when someone is released. What do you think happens to someone when they are is released?

Answer:
It is believed that when someone is released that they are brought to a place outside the community to live a better life and continue on.

2. What evidence in the text suggests that Roberto had lived a wonderful life? Use evidence from the text to support your answer.

Answer:
Roberto was an instructor of Elevens, which is an important Assignment. He was also in the Planning Committee and had made the plans for the beautiful landscape design for the Central Plaza.

Chapter 5:
1. What do you think is the reason why people must take pills to take care of The Stirrings?

Answer:
The reason why people must take pills for The Stirrings is because it seems that this phenomenon is not supposed to part of Sameness but the people who created Sameness were not able to remove it so they invented pills for it.

2. What do you think is the reason that you have to talk about your dreams every morning? Explain your thinking.

Answer:
The reason you have to talk about your dreams every morning is to check if you have The Stirrings or not. The reason why they continue to check is to make sure that you are taking the pills.

Chapter 6:
1. Why do you think the Committee of Elders decide your spouse, child name, and what child you get?

Answer:
The Committee of Elders decide who your spouse and child are is because they don't want to take the chance of people choosing the wrong spouse or husband or the wrong child.

2. Do you think Jonas and Asher will be satisfied with the Assignment they will be given? Yes or no? Explain your thinking.

Answer:
After hearing all the results of the other Assignments, I think Jonas and Asher will get an Assignment that will satisfy them.

Chapter 7:
1. Near the end of the chapter, Jonas is skipped. What do you think is the reasoning behind this?

Answer:
I think that this is the moment where Jonas is given a special role in the community. The reason I think this is because there have been special events happen to him and he is the protagonist.

2. It is mentioned in earlier chapter that being a Birthmother is a Assignment that has little honor. Explain the mother's opinion using evidence from the text.

Answer:
The reason why Jonas's mother finds that being a Birthmother has little honor is because after three births, you are then put into hard labour until you enter the House of the Old.

Chapter 8:
1. What do you think is "The Capacity to See Beyond?" Explain in your own words what you think it might be.

Answer:
I think "The Capacity to See Beyond" is a special gift of sight required to have if you are to become a Receiver and is very rare which is why there is only one Receiver.

2. Why do you think a Receiver-in-trainning must have all the qualities that the Chief Elder named? Elaborate and justify your answer.

Answer:
I think that a Receiver-in-training must have the qualities that the Chief Elder named because it must mean that this Assignment is one of the most important and challenging jobs with major obstacles.

Chapter 9:
1. Everyone seems to hesitate when they talk to Jonas. What do you think is the cause of this?

Answer:
People must be cautious and anxious around Jonas because of his Assingment of Receiver of Memory. It is said that this is the most honorable job so it must have an effect on his peers and friends.

2. One of the rules given to Jonas for being the Receiver-in-training is that he is allowed to lie. Why do you think they would be permitted with this power? Explain your thinking.

Answer:
It is later confirmed that he is not allowed to talk about his job and must hide his emotions since people in the community don't have any or don't understand feeling. Therefore, Jonas will have to lie sometimes to hide his emotions.

Chapter 10:
1. The weather in the Community appears to never change. Another thing is that Jonas doesn't know what snow is. What do you think happened to all the weather phenomenon? Explain your thinking.

Answer:
It is revealed that everything has been reduced to Sameness, which is created to simplify everything and take away anything special. It also took away obstacles like snow and hills.

2. How is it possible that the memories of the world are only with The Receiver? Use your thinking to express your opinion.

Answer:
Perhaps a long time ago, one person was taught all the history of the world before Sameness incase they were to encounter any special situations.

Chapter 11:
1. After the memory of snow was passed to Jonas, The Giver says that all weather was climate controlled and turned to Sameness. If the world was turned to "Sameness," what do you think would be the changes made to be considered "Sameness?"

Answer:
"Sameness" would depend on what a person considers to be normal. For example, people away from the equator would consider cold and snowy weather to be normal, while people next to it would never have seen snow and only hot and sunny weather.

2. After the memory of sunshine, The Giver said that it was also climate controlled and turned to Sameness. What does this mean, does the Sun still shine in the sky or no? Explain your thinking.

Answer:
I think there is still sunshine, but there is a controlled and limited amount because of Sameness. Since they have farms, they must have sunshine to grow food.

Chapter 12:
1. If they reduced everything to Sameness, why would they need past memories to keep if they turned everything to Sameness?

2. If you were one of the people deciding what Sameness was, what would you keep and what would you take away? Justify your reasoning

Chapter 13:
1. Do you think the whole world is like the way it is in the community? Justify your opinion.

2. Do you think The Receiver should have the right to have a decision in the Committee?

Chapter 14:

1. What do you think would happen to Gabriel in the future since Jonas gave him the memory of a sail with colour. How could this affect Gabriel's future?

2. The jet that had flown over the community a couple of years ago was not of their own. If the jet did not belong to them, who do you think it belongs to? Is this evidence of another society?

Chapter 15:
1. Judging by the descriptions of the environment and of the horses and of the cannons, what time period do you think this warfare memory is happening in?

2. How would you have reacted if you were Jonas in this memory? Would you be terrified by the horrors of warfare or would you stay composed knowing it's a memory?

Chapter 16:
1. Explain why love has been taken away from the Community using evidence from the text and examples to support your answer.

2. Since Jonas's parents avoided the question on if they love Jonas, are parents truly happy with their children or their spouse?

Chapter 17:
1. Even with all the memories of war with the Receivers, how do the children make up their game of war?

2. Lily mentioned the possibility of another alternate community exactly like their community with the same people and roles. Do you think there is a possibilty of her theory being true? Explain your thinking.

Chapter 18:
1. Why was Rosemary chosen as the Receiver-in-training? Answer the question using evidence from the text.

2. The Giver seemed open to the concept of the memories being released to the community and helping them with the pain. In your opinion, do you think the memories should be given to the community? Why or why not, explain your thinking.

Chapter 19:
1. Do you think Jonas's father truly know what he is doing and has been lying to his family about releases and Elsewhere or do you think that he is oblivious to the fact of death?

2. Rosemary had requested to inject herself with the syringe. Why do you think she wanted to do it herself?

the old people that were in the memory
-Jonas realizes who grandparents are
-The Giver explains why none of the children have seen their grandparents
-The Giver tells Jonas that Love was the strong feeling of the memory Jonas felt
-Jonas, feeling foolish, liked the love in the memory and how the grandparents were there
-The Giver explains the reason why that way of living was dangerous to Jonas
-Jonas asks his parents if they loved him
-Jonas's parents reacted stating the inaccuracy of the word "love"
-Jonas is disappointed by their response and lies
-Gabriel progressed enough that he was allowed to be named and given to a family
-Because Gabriel still cried in the Nurturing Center, they returned Gabriel to Jonas's room to give him time
-Jonas talks to Gabriel about the change that could happen and continues to give Gabriel memories of happiness
-Jonas decides to stop taking the pills for The

Chapter 3:
I think this chapter will be based upon how the ceremony goes and when Jonas is called for his Assignment it is a big shock for everyone.

Chapter 6:
I believe that after chapter 5, which was about The Stirrings, will be about the Ceremonies. Throughout the previous chapters, Jonas hinted at the Ceremony happening soon and that he was getting apprehensive by the suspense of it, which implies that the Ceremonies are happening sooner than we think. Since chapter 5 ended with no hints as to what the next chapter will be about is another reason since there is no other significant event to happen.

Chapter 9:
I think what will happen in this chapter is that Jonas will begin to start his training the next day. Although the job he was given has great honor, he worries about how his social life will be affected with his friends since the job is required to be isolated and alone.

Chapter 12:
I think what will happen in this chapter is that Jonas will meet with his family at his dwelling and the family will talk about how their job was that day. Jonas will be troubled because his instructions state that he is prohibited to talk about his job.

Chapter 15:

What I predict chapter 15 will be about is that since Jonas decided that he wasn't going to tell The Giver about him giving the memory to Gabriel or that he has the ability to do that, his decision will effect his training and change Gabriel's developpement.

Chapter 18:
I think this chapter will talk about who the Receiver-in-training that failed is because there have been hints about her ever since she was mentioned. She appears to be a significant character in the book so there has to be a chapter about her, and since the book is almost done I think this will be the chapter.
