L’opera e' conservata al National Gallery di Londra. All’interno del quadro il pittore immortala il girasole in ogni suo momento giornaliero, dal massimo splendore e dalla sua massima apertura, fino all’appassimento con la calata del sole.

Questo quadro di Van Gogh venne realizzato dall’artista quando era ricoverato in un manicomio in Provenza, lasciandosi ispirare solo ed esclusivamente da quello che vedeva all’esterno della sua camera. Questo è uno dei paesaggi di Van Gogh più famoso in assoluto nonostante l’artista l’abbia sempre definito un’opera fallimento. Il significato della Notte stellata di Van Gogh non è di certo uno, ma diversi. Ovviamente quello che arriva a chi guarda questa opera è l’originalità del disegno e lo splendore di una notte che non sembra buia, ma anzi il giallo lucente padroneggia il dipinto.
