To find the solutions we plugged the a, b, and c values from our original equation to the quadratic formula and solved. The answers to the solution calculated to 25.159 feet, which represents where the ball would hit the floor from where Jake is standing if the hoop was not there. The other root is -2. 806 feet which represents where where the ball was picked up off the ground (2 feet behind where the ball was shot)

Because the equation is in standard form, the c value will be the y intercept. The y-intercept is (0,6), which represents the point at which the ball is released.

To find the vertex, you can use the formula -b/2a, which when applied to this problem will be -1.9/2(-.085), which equals 11.176. This is not only the x value of the vertex, but also the axis of symmetry. To find the y value of the vertex, you plug in the x value to the equation, which will equal 16.618. This represents the ball's highest point.
