During the first stage of the Erikson Development, babies are forming hope between themselves and their caregiver. During this stage the baby was giving their trust to their caregiver by depending on them for food, safety, and love. I personally don’t remember this stage of my life but my mom has always told me that I was a really good baby, and that I really only cried when I was hungry.

During the second stage of the Erikson Development children are focusing on more personal control and independence. Potty training is definitely a huge role when it comes to this stage. “ Potty training plays an important role in helping children develop this sense of autonomy.” Erikson believed that learning to control one's bodily functions leads to a feeling of control and sense of independence. When I was learning to potty train it took me the most time to figure it out, out of all of my siblings.

During the third stage of the Erikson Development children begin to assert their power and control over the world throughout play and social interactions. Some children are successful with this stage and can lead others with the feeling of capability but others fail this stage. Those who fail have a sense of guilt, self doubt and have a lack of initiation. I feel like I developed this stage pretty well. I always loved talking ( and still do) to people and finding new interests.

During the fourth stage of the Erikson Development children learn to cope with new social and academic demands. Throughout this stage children begin to develop a sense of pride in their accomplishments and abilities they completed. I have three siblings so growing up if I did something “better” than my siblings I immediately felt accomplished because everything was always a competition in my household.

During the fifth stage of the Erikson Development teenagers or young adults develop a sense of personal identity which will continue to influence behavior and development for the rest of a person's life. Teens need to develop a sense of self and personal identity. Success leads to an ability to stay true to yourself, while failure leads to role confusion and a weak sense of self. I am currently in this stage and have developed a sense of self and personal identity. Identity is important because when talking about it it’s referring to all beliefs, ideals, and values.

During the last stage of the Erikson Development young adults form an intimate, loving relationship with other people. Erikson believed it was vital that people develop close, committed relationships with other people to form an enduring and secure relationship. I haven’t entered this stage yet, so when I find more people I hangout with in college or what-not, I will keep a close relationship with them so it can unravel onto the intimacy stage.

During the seventh stage of the Erikson Development adults create things that will outlast them, like having children or creating a positive change that benefits others. During this stage you are still continuing building your lives but focusing more on your career and family. I have not yet entered this stage but once I have I’m sure that I will love it. I have always wanted kids and to build something bigger than I am.
