MY PHILOSOPHY OF SOCIAL JUSTICE

Social justice and human rights, while not the same, are closely linked. Social justice is advocating for the basic human rights as outlined in Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In my opinion, this refers to all people having access to the same rights and opportunities regardless of race, gender, age, sexual orientation, etc. Model citizens and those of privilege have a moral obligation to advocate for those who do not have the capacity to do so for themselves.

Social Justice should not be confused with charity. While both benefit others, social justice has long-term effects which impact the future. Whereas charity has short-term, temporary effects which only solve an immediate problem or emergency.

"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime."
