The Dallas Chamber Symphony

I have heard that the Dallas Chamber Symphony was good, so I decided to take a look at the website for this assignment. After viewing different pages, I realized that their repertoire is mainly based on wars or solo pieces by mostly men. In the previous seasons, there has been a few female composers they have either been inspired to play from or who have joined them. However, there is mainly men composers and soloists in the present season which I find interesting because this is exactly what we have been talking about in the discussions in class. With that being said, I do believe that the symphony is missing at least one female composer or soloist that the symphony uses. Also, I do not see myself in the music considering that it is mainly themed by things in the past, but I will say that this symphony is amazing. If it were more diverse and not mainly dominated by men, then it would be even better.

A New Canon: In Pop Music, Women Belong At The Center Of The Story

"The process of canonization — literally, of compiling lists of the greatest or most influential works within an art form — is always controversial. Many musicians despise lists and other anthologizing efforts that threaten to freeze their work within hierarchies. This is doubly true for many women, who fear that being honored as the best within their gender simply marginalizes them further"
