The lines that crosses my mind, when I think about todays lesson is from a song produced by the group Snap. I sang and danced a lot to this song in my teenage years.

Rhythm is a dancer
It's a soul's companion
You can feel it everywhere
Lift your hands and voices
Free your mind and join us
You can feel it in the air

The drum session was very intense for me. I understand the cultural difference - in Guadeloupe music, singing and dancing is about sharing. In my country it is about performing. I like to move to music and I like to sing, but I don't like to be in the centre. I have been told many times, that I'm not a good singer or musician, so it's deeply rooted in me, that I shouldn't sing. At least not alone. I love to listen to the wind in the leaves, the rolling waves and the birds who sings in the garden. Todays session reminded me of the music and rhythm that surrounds us all the time.

Creole Garden heritage and Gwo Ka

Beautiful to discover culture through nature and music; how powerful an instrument to link people both nature and music are!

As I learnt today, words are nothing compared to the vibrations music conveys; music can talk to people of unity, of manhood, of beeing one being only.

Gwo Ka is fascinating as it is very simple and can arise basic feelings: love, suffering, work, struggle; that’s way, maybe, I was very fascinated in hearing the musicians today. Thank you!

Creol Garden and Gwo Ka

Today's experience was very special.
It was the subjects to see a garden where so many different fruits and vegetables grew.
The life they lived seemed so unclear and far from what I am used to.

It was also difficult to sing in Creole.
Since I can't speak the language and the pronunciation is difficult and it is not easy for me to sing a song I do not know

Playing drums was fun.
but also cross-border since I do not have rhythm.
Dancing that way was also difficult, as it does not fall naturally to me.

My quote: Today must be
Singing in the rain ...
as it rained a lot today while we were singing

Rosanna Session 3
Today we visited the Creole Farm and admired its lush tropical vegetation. The lesson of today was about music and culture in Guadaloupe. We learnt Gwoka , a very characteristic of Guadaloupe, it has got very ancient origins, back to the slavery period. Slaves created a sort of language to communicate each other. Gwoka has 7 different rhythms and, thanks to William and George, we tried to perform all of them.
We learnt that you can feel the rhythm and music even if you don't know lyrics. I was very impressed by William approach to all of us, he encouraged us to dance, to sing, to face our shyness and to free ourself.
First time I prepared and tasted sugar cane juice ,a new sweet taste for me!Today I understood better the culture of Guadaloupe.
"Music can unite people"

Starting the day by entering a Creole garden and being invaded by plants and trees of all shapes and colors, it seemed like living in an enchanted world. Switching from the colors of the vegetation to the colors of the music was easy. Both worlds have created strong emotions in me. I understood through today's cultural exchange that letting go is not easy but it's important. William was able to get something out of each of us hidden, even having prepared the juice of the sugar cane was like drinking the nectar of the gods

“The rhythm of the body , the melody of the mind and the harmony of the soul create the symphony of life”
