Maya was multi talented, she had many talents. She also spoke many languages because of her talents. She was a singer, a dancer, and a poet. Her full name is Marguerite Annie Johnson. She knew Martin Luther King. Her brother was the first person to call her "Maya". She called her mother "Lady" and that's when her mother started to call herself "Lady Johnson."

She grew up in St.Louis, Missouri. She grew up in a poor family.

Back in the 1990's black people were

mistreated so Maya was made fun of by

white women's.

At age 8,Maya got raped by her mother's boyfriend,

Later on,Maya's uncle murdered the man.

After what Maya had experienced,she stayed quite for 5 years

she only talked to her brother.

i think it means that people will always remember how you treated them even

though they might forget what you said to them or what you did.

She grew up in a poor family so

it was hard for her to go to school but her

mother and grandmother told her that education is important. She was a teen mom.

As an african -American,she experienced racial prejudices. She had a baby when she was only 17.

Later on when her baby was 2 months old, she told her mother that she found a a job and she's going to move out.

We remember her because she was a great poet.

People admired her because of the poems she wrote….If she was still alive

She would still be writing great poems and she would be inspiring people to do things.Gone but never forgotten.
