The main character, Sierra, may be experiencing her last time in California. She lives in Oregon and her family grows trees there to sell in California. One of her best friends, Heather, is going to miss her a lot more than she did before. It is an external conflict because her parents aren't earning enough profit to continue selling Christmas tress in California, resulting in her having to say goodbye to Heather for a lot longer than usual.

This week I am reading the book, “What Light.” "The moon looks like a clipped fingernail tonight, barely lighting this side of the hill." I know this is a simile because it compares the shape of the moon to a clipped fingernail. It means the moon is in a crescent shape since the part of a fingernail that is clipped is usually in a crescent shape. The author might be trying to make the reader think that the moon is a thin crescent shape because the reader could assume the clippings are thin.

This week I am reading the book, “What Light.” My book is written in first person point of view. I know this because the words I, my, we, me are used often throughout the book. The narrator is Sierra. I think the author chose that point of view because the reader needs to only know the thoughts of the main character with the most decisions and obstacles to make the book more enjoyable to read by not knowing how the boy she likes feels.

This week I am reading the book, “What Light.” The main idea of my reading this week is about Sierra meeting a cute boy, Caleb, but she hears a rumor about him from Heather that makes her unsure about wanting to get involved with him. One supporting detail, Sierra interacts with Caleb at her parents' store and notices that Caleb seems to think she heard the rumor. Heather keeps telling Sierra that no matter how nice Caleb seems, she shouldn't date him in case the rumor is true. When Sierra tells Caleb she doesn't want the rumor to stop them from getting to know each other, Caleb agrees and doesn't say much else.

I am reading the book, “What Light.” The main character in the book is Sierra. Something Sierra says is "I know who he is now" when people tell her Caleb isn't who she thinks he is. Sierra thinks that people should stop assuming Caleb is someone who's dangerous. Caleb's past has effects on others. Some of them are parents and friends. Jeremiah's family acts like Caleb is a bloodthirsty criminal. This is how Sierra looks. She has brown hair, brown eyes, long eyelashes, and small eyes.

I read the book, “What Light.” I loved it. This is because the story makes you want to keep reading until the end. You might like it because it's about two teens that start out in a complicated relationship. This book is in the fiction genre. Some other books that are similar are "The Twelve Days of Dash and Lily" by Rachel Cohn and "Shutter" by Laurie Faria Stolarz.
