Life Circumstances of Mary Mackillop 21dempc https://padlet.com/21dempc/cwrot5gim7m5/wish/260419177 The eldest of 8, from a well educated family, Mary Mackillop was born to Flora McDonald and Alexander Mackillop. She grew up in Fitzroy, Melbourne, and had to start helping raise her siblings at a young age due to her fathers failures in his work, and his inability to provide sufficiently for his family. 
Mary's parents were both catholic immigrants from Scotland however her Father migrated in 1838 and her Mother in 1840.Once Mary turned 24 she became fully devoted to the Church and dedicated her life fully to living in Jesus's footsteps; She lived a full happy life helping others and never married.

The parable also talks about Samaritans and Levites. As Jesus was replying the Lawyers question, he said "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho," this teaches kids about the geographical landscape of the journey from Jerusalem to Jericho. The Priest in this story would have been Jewish as Jesus was Jewish. Jewish people did not have church but they had temples where they went to worship God. Levites were Priests as well however their main purpose was to educate people on the Torah which are the first 5 books of the Old Testament.

While we know she prayed and was very religious in her every day life, we don't know what exactly she did as a form of spiritual practice or what prayers she said.  This quote is a clear example of why Mary Mackillop should be looked up to, because it inspires us to lead by example and follow in Jesus's footsteps to spread love and faith.

Mary Mackillop reinforced this in her life’s work by creating education that didn't cost anything, and had anything that Mary could supply it with. In her we see one who was not afraid to speak fearlessly your gospel of love.
We pray for the sensitivity and imagination to read the signs of our times, and to articulate new possibilities for our own day. Like Mary, may we learn to confront all that is oppressive and unjust, and empower others towards true freedom and integrity. Spirit of wisdom, be with us as we face new horizons. Amen

God of all blessings, you revealed in Mary MacKillop a sensitivity to the rights and dignity of every person, regardless of race or creed. May we learn from her to overcome the obstacles of prejudice and fear. Help us to value the goodness of each person and all the blessings of unity in diversity.
We ask this through the depth and unity of you, our bountiful God, who hold all things in being. Amen
