Her own ego before her patients. Ego made up of power, control, non-conforming, gentle femininity. She wants to be seen as feminine/caring, and at the same time takes pride in her dominance over men.

(a teacher always knows more than a young child regardless of what they say - they "don't understand"

Keeps patients from challenging her authority.

"a mistake was made some how in manufacturing putting those *big womanly breasts* on what would of otherwise been a perfect work, and you can see how bitter she is about it" (pg 6) "she blows up bigger and bigger, big as a tractor, so big I can smell the machinery inside the way you smell a motor pulling too big a load" (pg 5) - Describes how she is seen as inhuman/autonomous which adds to the cold, controlling way in which Bromden sees her.

Show Desire for Power and Authority 

"in the center of a web of wires like a watchful robot" (pg 29)

This implies that Nurse Ratched regards the prison much like a web of wires, where she has such precise control over the system that she knows exactly what's going on and what string. Waiting for others (prey) to make a mistake, where she can immediately act upon.

"When a completed product goes back out into society, all fixed up good as new, better than new sometimes, it brings joy to the Big Nurse’s heart; something that came in all twisted different is now a functioning, adjusted component, a credit to the whole outfit and a marvel to behold" (pg I'm not sure) 
This suggests Nurse Ratched's thirst for power. 'All twisted different' represents the uniqueness of an individual, but when they come out as a 'functioning, adjusted component' they lose this individualism and fits in exactly as society wants.

"The Big Nurse was furious. She swiveled and glared at him, the smile dripping over her chin; she’d just had it going so good" ( pg I'm not sure) 

Any breakage in her system results in great anger from her, though she tries to cover it up with sinister, unhuman-like smiles

"No, that nurse ain’t some kinda monster chicken, buddy, what she is is a ball-cutter" (pg I'm not sure)

Here, she is being described as something far worse than any form of small monster, as being a ball-cutter, she is being directly described as fear itself from a man's perspective.

"First Charles Cheswick and now William Bibbit! I hope you're finally satisfied. Playing with human lives-gambling with human lives-as if you though yourself to be a God" (pg 318)
