I can plan all my staffing, but when my projected numbers are 150 and I end up with 450, the timetable is of course not going to be correct … we are expected “just to deal with this” as there has to be enough tutorials for students, but that is not how it works with casual staff

The minimum number of enrolments for cancellation of a tute should be made clear at the beginning of the year and not change. This will help reducing changes timetables etc. and help to enable better planning, increase consistency and reduce uncertainty.

The process of requesting timetable change requests is difficult in terms of the different software used. e.g., There is an excel spreadsheet which is not linked into the timetable publish site etc. A clear flow chart with links would be useful for staff when making timetabling requests. Overall the timetable needs to allow more time for staff to make changes and not close until the term before the start of the next term.

At UNE, you receive a contract at the start of the year and hours are added at the end of each semester according to how much was claimed in the prior semester and how much work is available in the following. It seemed like a really simple administrative option.

Could a clearer explanation be provided about the relationship between EFTSL and teaching workload allocation and time worked. e.g., Is it true that a unit with only 1 student enrolled receives the same workload allocation as a unit with 119 students? Further clarification around the meaning of EFTSL for casual and continuing academic staff would be very helpful.
