Based on my knowledge thus far, after a questionnaire has been completed, the researcher now has to gather the raw data and convert to usable information. The data must be analysed and verified for omissions, consistency and legibility. I have learnt that this process is called data editing. Thereafter, a process called coding is performed where a numerical score or symbol is assigned to edited data to group data into categories. The process also includes constructing and using a codebook and software use to code data. Before the data can be analysed, a database has to be created electronically. This allows the data to be organized and stored for ease of analysing. A database is structured based on fields, records and files. However, it is my understanding that before the data can be processed, it must first be cleaned by verifying that all values collected are accurate and conform to certain rules. After the research has gone through the various steps in analyzing the data, the research now has to decide upon what type of visual and graphical technique will be used. The research can decide to use frequency tables, bar graphs, histogram, pie chart, line graph, scatter plots, stem and leaf plots. Each technique has its individual purpose and usage to display the different types of data.
