96% of water that once flowed to the dead sea from the Jordan river, was instead sent to Mediterranean coastlines for people who lived there.

But thats not the only reason, Israel had almost no natural resources, the dead sea is one of the main natural resource that can help the country earn money.

To get these resources Israel and Jordan transformed the Southern part of the dead sea into artificial evaporation ponds.

These ponds are not very deep, they are only 6 feet deep.

As humans collect more minerals from the evaporation pond (southern dead sea), the ponds have to be replenished (filled up again). So the potash industry pumps water from the northern basin into the evaporation ponds.

Population of Israel was growing so they took the water from the Galilee sea. But because of this 96% of the water that the dead sea was going to get got diverted away

Isarel and Jordan are mining the Dead Sea for Potash, this is a billion dollar industry sustaining many lives. This is also their only natural resource so it's unlikely they will stop anytime soon

People continue to collect minerals from the southern part of the dead sea, therefore the water level decreases. So the potash industry pumps water from the northern basin to the evaporation ponds. This causes the overall water level of the dead sea to decrease.

This is a problem and the dead sea is one of the main natural resource Israel use to earn money. Over time the dead sea would not have enough water.
