         <description><![CDATA[<p>Social skills are essential skills that every student needs to learn and use on a daily basis.&nbsp; We have a small group of students in the 6<sup>th</sup> grade who lack these skills or have vast room for improvement.&nbsp; I will be conducting 8 Task Group Sessions teaching these skills.  </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Morning Announcements</p><p>Social Media Post - Facebook</p><p>Flyers hung in the 6th grade bathrooms and hallway </p><p>Emails to all 6th grade students and parents </p><p>Email all 6th grade teachers </p><p><br/></p><p>A month before starting "The Social Club" all 6th grade teachers, parents, and students will be email explaining what "The Social Club" is, topics covered, dates, times, and locations will be sent out.  Flyers will be hung in the hallways and bathrooms with the same information.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Sign-ups will be cut off two weeks before meetings start. </p><p><br/></p><p>If more than 8 students sign up to participate, I will talk to the teachers to narrow the list down to 8 students who need the lessons the most.  </p><p><br/></p><p>Personal invitations will be sent out to each participant one and a half weeks before the meetings start. </p><p><br/></p><p>Once invitations are sent out, students will have 3 days to accept the invitation and return the consent form.  </p><p><br/></p><p>A screener will be used to assess the participant's willingness to participate in the group.  </p><p><br/></p><p>The screener will be a group screener the day before the meetings start.  </p><p><br/></p><p>In the screening process, the leader will use Rosemarie Smead's "TAP-In" process.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>T</strong>ell about the Group:</p><p>"The Social Club" is a group of 6th-grade students at Hawkins Middle School.  Group meetings will be held in the conference room every Wednesday from 7:15 am to 7:45 am for six weeks.  Group meetings will start on Wednesday, March 19th until Wednesday, April 23rd.  </p><p><br/></p><p>Lesson topics will be:</p><ol><li><p>Communication Skills</p></li><li><p>Empathy</p></li><li><p>Teamwork</p></li><li><p>Self-awareness</p></li><li><p>Active Listening</p></li><li><p>Identifying Emotions </p></li></ol><p><br/></p><p>Participation is voluntary, but once you opt-in to attend, members are expected to attend every meeting.  Participation in activities and discussions is expected.  </p><p><br/></p><p>The goals of the group will be to meet new people, learn social skills needed for daily life, and have fun.  </p><p><br/></p><p>Confidentiality is the utmost concern in the group.  What is said in the group, must remain in the group.  If this is broken, the participant will be removed from the group. </p><p><br/></p><p><strong>A</strong>sk the student about his or her interest and commitment.</p><p><br/></p><p>The leader will ask the students why they want to participate, what they think they will gain from joining the group, and what they understand about the group.  </p><p><br/></p><p>Students will be asked if they can follow all rules and participate in the meetings.  </p><p><br/></p><p><strong>P</strong>ick members </p><p><br/></p><p>Students will be chosen to participate in group sessions if they can adhere to the rules/expectations, their goals align to the topics of the meetings, can keep confidential information private, and can come to all meetings, they will be chosen to participate in "The Social Club."</p><p><br/></p><p>If a student that was screened is not a great match for the group, another student from the sign-ups will be screened until all 8 slots are full.  </p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>   </p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p> </p>]]></description>

The leader and students will go through the Participant Guidelines individually and discuss each line together.  Participants will decide what that "Sounds Like" and "Looks Like" in the group setting.  The leader will guide this discussion with input from the students.  </p><p><br/></p><p>Confidentiality is of the utmost importance and students need to know that any rule that is broken is grounds for removal from the group. </p><p><br/></p><p>Going through this document should allow students time to discuss and reflect on the importance of having rules in a group setting.  </p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>This leadership style has been found to be the most effective style.&nbsp; The leader will offer guidance to the students, but the students will also have input.&nbsp; Studies show that contributions from group members were of higher quality in a group setting.&nbsp; The leader will encourage participation from all members of the group but allow participants to feel engaged in the lessons.&nbsp; This should create a motivating environment where participants are allowed to be creative.&nbsp; This leadership style fosters commitment.&nbsp;</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>According to Sec. 33.003 of the Texas Education Agency’s Education Code for school counselors and counseling programs, school boards need to have guidelines about parental consent required for students to participate in activities such as school counseling activities.&nbsp; Hawkins ISD does not have any policies, that I am aware of, that require parental consent for students to participate in a group setting.&nbsp; Although our district does not currently have this as a policy, I will require every student to have parental consent to participate in a group.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>“Sec. 33.003.&nbsp; PARENTAL CONSENT.&nbsp; The board of trustees of each school district shall adopt guidelines to ensure that written consent is obtained from the parent, legal guardian, or person entitled to enroll the student under Section<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/GetStatute.aspx?Code=ED&amp;Value=25.001"> 25.001</a>(j) for the student to participate in those activities for which the district requires parental consent” (<em>EDUCATION CODE CHAPTER 33.
