I like the idea of using weekly videos as learning nudges as shown by the example of Fabiola Torres. I would probably expand this a little and add additional items with a quick overview of what is being covered. Examples could be to discuss common misconceptions about material being covered and why they are incorrect or provide some suggestions to students on how to approach learning certain material.

I love the idea of a video showing how to navigate the course and find the different assignments, I always struggle at the beginning of the course explaining the basics to students and this will give me another way to give the information to the students

More videos! Intro videos are more encouraged but I'm also interested in giving feedback via video. It adds a human element to the course and also allows me as the instructor to express in different ways other than typing. I would love to incorporate an intro video again. At first I was discouraged because I did this my first year and had no views and felt like it didn't benefit, but I will try again.

Class Overview Video

I really like the idea of putting out a welcome video before the first day of class. I also think creating a class overview video is a great idea. It would give the students a big picture view of what they would learn as opposed to the overwhelming amount of information that comes at them through the syllabus. I like the idea of allowing students to have different options in the completion of assignments as well. This would allow them to play to their own strengths and hopefully motivate them in their work.

I am learning that my videos don't need to be perfect because I am not perfect. This is why I've avoided them in the past even though deep in my gut I knew it was the right thing to do to better connect to my students.

While I am still getting used to these new applications, I find the value through making frequent videos for the course to give it that human touch. Starting off with a good introductory video, then providing weekly check-in videos that go over the weekly workflow of the course is the strategy that I am going to take. I still cannot get into VideoGrid for some reason, but I cant wait to be able to make videos with captions!

Enrich the classroom experience

I have always wanted to have a better connection with students online. I can appreciate addressing the online experience to our unique student population. I am also working with IBest this quarter. Students scores coming out of high school is low compare to the pre- pandemic era. This class along with IBest has provided me with invaluable tools to enrich students’ online and brick-n-mortar experience. Having a balance schedule with both online and brick-n-mortar increases students’ chance of success. Recording video is a great idea to break the ice with students.

I haven't used VidGrid since we first transitioned to Canvas. Looking forward to learning some tricks and reaquaint myself with the tech, since I hope to use it for my in-person class this fall.

the class is another reminder to be aware and have empathy to others. Understanding that we are all different and have our own stories I important. Creating a community and support is important for students, but also for the instructor. I liked that the class had a lot of resources for additional support material. Also, provide additional reading.

I really like using technology to enhance teaching. The Vid Grid assignment forced me to learn and I struggled a bit. It reminded me of a graduate level course that I completed (Teaching with Technology). Videos are a great way to personalize and "humanize" my courses.

It is good that each module has repetitive slides that go over the subject material from different angles. I am of the viewpoint that stating, saying, reading, and seeing, gets the ideas situated better in my mind.

I have been interested in Learning and Teaching styles since I took a pedagogy class in Graduate school, and I liked how the examples here gave concrete examples of how to integrate teaching into multiple learning styles at once.
