Monash offers paeds ED and adolescent psych as an intern so is a great springboard into a paeds year. However monash does not offer a paeds year as a PGY 2, you will have to apply to MCH or RCH separately.

No you cannot, only as a PYG2 but there are lots of cardio rotations as a general year and as a BPT 1.

Why would you chose to go to Monash and do the rural rotations rather than just going rural for the year?

You would go to Monash if you want to dip your toes into rural/ aren't fully set on rural and also if you want to see the full scope of medicine ie. CABGs or complex surgeries or complex medical management. At rural sites there is often a ceiling of care, above which the patient is transferred to a larger better equipped site like Monash or the Alfred.

Hello, it is protected, but not extremely protected when I did it because it was online. I think it is in person now so it is probably a lot better now because you can physically leave the ward to go to teaching.

Also forgot to mention that you get 5 BPT 1 rotations instead of 4 which is a big drawcard for monash BPT> other sites

I don't like baret because it is more fun to call people. I don't think it has impacted my referral skills however it means it takes longer to get an answer. You will still need to call after hours so you will still have many opportunities for phone referrals.

It can depends on how highly your intern application ranked but often can be luck of the draw. However there is plenty of room to swap rotations (unless they are core rotations- gen med, surg, ED).

Yes we do have a few, you can definitely try to apply especially if you have been at Monash as a student (stress this in your cover letter).

You should preference in the order of where you want to end up + where you think you will get into realistically. Similar to what we were told at our RMH information session when I was a 5th year, if you don't preference them highly they may not even look at your application (for RMH). I think this applies for the big 4 to be honest (St Vs, RMH, Austin and Alfred), however at Monash it is probably not that level of competitive yet? Unsure. It is however becoming more popular, so bottom line if you want to be at Monash, preference it in top 3. If you want to be at the big 4 first and you think you have a great application, preference us 5th.
