Chicago is a vast city with many skyscrapers, an 18 mile shoreline (bike trail), elevated train system and heavy traffic. The winters are very cold (can get to 40 below zero) and humid in the summer. People are friendly, in a Midwest way and love the Cubs or White Sox. The town is divided at State St and Madison St. SNL began there as Second City so the culture is very well known - accent, Da' Bears fans, some of the humor in the show of the 1970s and 1980s. Today the mayor is a female and gay. This was a big change from all the men who ran the city (second female elected). You can find cheap eats and luxurious restaurants. There are many ethnic restaurants throughout the city. I grew up near Midway Airport - very Polish, Irish, grandma concentrated. Firefighters and cops bought homes in this neighborhood. It was very lower, working middle class. We had block parties every year. 15 other kids lived on my block and the next street over had another 20 kids so I lived with lots of friends close to us. School was Catholic because the public schools were not a good option. The library was very active. Chicago is known for certain parades like St. Patrick's Day. It is also known for many events held near the Magnificient Mile. THe most iconic visual of the city is either: the Sears Tower, the Art Institute lions or Michigan Avenue.
