Being able to recognize different exercises for their proper component of fitness is just an entry level of the skill. Being able to understand the differences and and why that component is unique and important to living a healthy life requires a higher level of thinking. So asking students to create a workout, and to have them explain why and how it fits to that component is important to assess if a students has a deep and full level of understanding when it comes to 5 components of fitness.

A big part of the fitness world right now is through the use of social media. Students can use the social media to find others who are similar to them, or share similar goals. This can lead to them forming internal motivation. This motivation can be used for them to continue to pursue a healthy life. They are also given an opportunity to put their own spin on how they present their information. Social media will allow students to interact appropriately with others online as well as provide an interactive assignment.

This Kahoot is used to get the kids engaged in a formative assessment to show their understanding of the components in a more quiz like setting. Students are being held accountable to understand the information. This will take place after the survey, where students have been given the opportunity to gauge their level of understanding and ask questions or get clarification if needed. Although this assessment is a multiple choice, I believe to be an authentic assessment because it the students need to see an exercise and be able to place it into the correct category.

In the midst of our five components of fitness unit, we will perform a formative assessment by conducting a survey to gauge where students are at in their journey of mastering the 5 components. This will be assessed using Google Forms, where each class will have their own unique look. The teacher will take the data that is received back and determine how the students are feeling about the material and their confidence level. This survey through Google Forms is an authentic assessment because students must be honest to share how they are feeling and understanding the curriculum. It is a real world situation for the students to inform the teacher on how they are feeling.
