His father was a tinkerer. From his family, he had permission to tinker and learned that all people will not like you. When Mark later went to the all black school with four grades in one classroom, Mark started tutoring the fourth graders while he was in the first grade.  His family went on to teach him to not be afraid. Achievement is expected. In graduate school, he built a graphics workstation which led to the foundation of the PC. With an undergrad in electrical engineering, he pursued his 9^th grade dream in wanting to work for IBM. In college, Mark planned his career; a goal was to be the youngest IBM fellow, get his master's, get a PhD, lead IBM research, retire and start an academic career. In his time at IBM, mark created the ISA Bus, which was an industry standard for over 15 years to allow external devices plug into PCs. He is also part of many of IBM's early patents for the PC.

This machine was a supercomputer with over 130,000 processors running simultaneously and was not only applied to the biomolecular phenomena of protein folding but other complex problems like mapping the human genome.

He attended the village pathshaala, rather then attend an english school, a decision in which his father wanted him to experience sons of fisherman and muslim attendants over aristocracy. Although his family was not lower class, it was important for him to learn his mother's tongue and eventually sparked his interest in the workings of nature.

The combination of physics and botany led to him to prove plants had life. Bose was the inventor of the Crescograph, a device that measures tiny changes and reactions in plant cells in response to stimuli. He is also credited with first demonstrating wireless communication with radio waves. Bose's belief that knowledge should be shared freely and not constrained with patents. Two years later, Italian Guglielmo Marconi was credited for the first proper radio communication by the West when patenting the technology.

Although he was not fond of patents, he is credited as the first Asian who was awarded a US patent in 1904.
