WA1 Discursive Essay

1. What prevented me from getting a higher grade?
[Pronouns]I did not use the same pronoun in the same paragraph. I used “you” as a pronoun at the start and the end of the PEEL paragraph but used “students” in the middle of the paragraph

2. What came I do to do better?
[Language]I should revise my discursive essay notes and read up on different ways to write the Example of the PEEL paragraph and not solely just use research as the Example.

3. How do I feel about my first grade for English?
I feel content. I did alright for my first discursive essay. Although I expected myself to get more marks, I am not too far from my goal of 21. Discursive writing is a little different from Situational and Email writing, thus getting a 20 is enough for me. However, I did some careless mistakes that prevented me from getting higher marks, such as using different pronouns in the same paragraph. I also feel like I should use better vocabulary to level up my discursive essay. This can be achievable by reading more books and doing more of the editing practices. I should vary my examples and not just rely on research to do the example. For the start and the end of the essay, I can also use more interesting hooks and conclusion sentences.

March Hols Short Response

During the March holidays, I met up with my primary six friend that I never met for a year. I went to his house and played badminton. He was probably twice as good as I am, and the two hours were more of a trashing than a match. After the match, my right arm was sore and had no power left. However, it still felt memorable as I get to spend time with my friend.

Would you be keen to pick up an extreme sport? Why or why not

I would not be keen on picking up an extreme sport. This is due to extreme sports being very dangerous and brings massive risks, surge as huge injuries and possibly death. For example, rooftopping, an extreme sport, involves scaling a tall skyscraper and take a selfie at the top. This is also to be done without any safety equipment whatsoever. This sport caused many deaths as many influencers risk their lives for just a selfie and some likes. A Chinese roof topper, Wu Yongning fell from a 62-story building and kicked the bucket while streaming the climb on Weibo. This sad incident shows the huge risk of rooftopping, results in huge injuries and even death. There are other safer sports that can give the same exhilaration from climbing, such as rock climbing and indoor bouldering, which are conducted in a much safer environment than rooftopping. Rooftopping is also illegal in most countries as the action is both extremely dangerous but also considered trespassing as the roof topper is entering and climbing a private property without permission. Therefore, I would not be keen in picking up an extreme sport as it is life-threatening.

When I was young, I did not know how to speak or walk. Despite this, I slowly learnt how to communicate with my parents with simple words and slowly expanded my vocabulary. I also gradually learnt to walk by mimicking m parents. Despite many failed attempts, I did not give up and continued to try to walk. Eventually, I am able to walk and speak.
