You have had a huge impact on my life, because your 3 years teaching my oldest child were transformative. Not only did you provide a safe place for him during his occasional meltdowns, but you gave him the tools to take his education into his own hands. He came into 6th grade dependent on classroom aids, and left 8th grade a confident self-advocate. That is the number one thing his Roosevelt teachers say about him- that he is not afraid to advocate for what he needs in the classroom. His 3.74 high school GPA has everything to do with you.

Colleen, thank you for sharing your space with me last year when all was chaos and struggle. I was always impressed with your fortitude, flexibility, and optimism. You were able to quickly build relationships with students and offer them authentic support and structure throughout all that was going on in our school and in your life. I'm going to miss you, but I feel lucky I got to learn from and work with you. It makes me happy to know that you and your son will be getting love and care from family in a familiar place as you heal and return to your new normal there.
