As a cohort we would need to consider what type of Makerspace would be beneficial to students and for what specific purpose we are constructing this space. For example, is the goal of the Makerspace to demonstrate and work with unfamiliar technologies, or is it a place to construct and play on our ideas? Will our Makerspace be a permanent space or will it need to be relocated at the conclusion of every class? How will we store the materials for the Makerspace? (Ebony Irvin)

What do we need? (Basic materials to begin our Makerspace)

Exploring the internet and engaging in examples of Makerspaces has led to the conclusion that the majority of Makerspaces are formed on the basis of open-ended crafty materials such as;

colouring pencils

notebooks

cardboard

crayons

scrapbooking supplies

tape

scissors

stickers

string/wire

batteries

wooden skewers

ruler

paperclips

However, it seems that forming and maintaining Makerspaces could be quite an expensive task for a beginning teacher or school with limited budget. It would be interesting to compare the resources in a variety of schools with an array of budgets and access to stores to purchase such materials. For example, would a rural school with limited access to the internet be able to effectively engage in a digital Makerspace, i.e using Makey Makey or Lego coding robots? What would a Makerspace in this situation look like? How could a teacher engage with the students in this space? (Ebony Irvin)
