1.) A medium shot of the two characters in the pink bedroom. Dicaprio obviously a business man and Robbie in all pink as a housewife its the perfect fit for the male gaze as he crawls over to her in an obviously sexual manner. Its obviously a two shot as well. The feminist colors create a sense of dominance from Robbie over Dicaprio as he's submissive and vulnerable to a certain extent in a funny way.
2.)Its an obvious male gaze because Dicaprio is totally fixated on Robbies body and the scene shows his intentions and her not letting him "in."
3.) I already explained the meaning in question 1....

1. In this image displaying the male gaze, there is a close shot of the female clearly showing her whole face and her facial expressions. This view allows the viewer to have a more intimate and emotional view of the woman. Also, the man in the picture is closer to the camera making him appear bigger. This gives him the effect of being more powerful and makes the women appear less powerful which is displaying male dominance.
2. This is male gaze because not only is the man in the image staring directly at the woman, but the viewer also has a direct view of the woman's face and cleavage through the camera lens.
3. As I explained in question number one, the close up is used to create a more intimate view and relationship with the woman and the man being placed closer to the camera is used to make him appear larger and dominant.

1. identify and analyze the mise-en-scene in your image.

The mise en scene in this shot from the transformers movie is a medium shot with a prop of a car. The shot is also in focus on the women, which is called short depth of field, it has a shallow focus. The attention is drawn to the most significant aspect of the scene, which is the woman bent over the hood of the car, and the rest of the scene is blurred out. The woman is the most important part of the scene due to her being attractive and doing something that is typically a man’s job. She is also showing a lot of skin.

2. Explain specifically why it would be considered "male gaze."

This scene is pretty degrading to women, because it is also followed by a variety of other camera angles and shots which are clearly only included in the movie for sexual gratification targeted towards the male. Women were not necessary for this movie, but to add a woman in the film as a love interest was simply just to attract the male gaze and added nothing to the movie. She is wearing minimal clothing and showing a lot of skin. She is doing what is considered a “man’s work”, so when women do it, it is often sexualized for the male gaze. The viewers have a direct view of her face, and she is in a provocative stance bent over the hood of the car.

3. Finally, explain the meaning of whatever mise-en-scene techniques you identify.

As I explained in question number one, the medium shot, and shallow focus is used to create a more intimate view of the woman. The car is slightly in the shot to allude that she is bending over the hood of the car checking the engine. By using these mise-en-scene techniques to portray the women, it intrigues the male gaze and objectifies the women, when she is doing a task that is seen as more masculine. Men are often not objectified this way when doing the same task.

1. This image is a medium shot taken from a high angle. The viewer is looking down on the characters, so they are in a position of power. Whereas the women are seen as being more vulnerable, small, and weak. They are also wearing little clothing and have popsicles. Both of these props are used to sexualize the characters. Due to the color of the popsicles being bright, they stand out within the scene. This focus immediately brings the attention to the characters faces, which show a sexual innuendo.

2. This image is considered “male gaze” because it is meant to show the women characters in a sexual way. This scene sexualizes the characters eating popsicles, which would normally be a harmless activity. To add, their clothing, or lack of clothing, makes it clear that the film director wants them to be looked at in a way that highlights their body. The female sitting back further is also making direct eye contact (with the viewer) while eating the popsicle. This eye-contact is targeted for men to “gaze” at and potentially enjoy.

3. The meaning of the mise-en-scene techniques is to bring emphasis to the female characters as sexual beings. To restate from question one, this scene is used to oversexualize both female characters. The use of props (the revealing bikinis and popsicles) is used to keep the male audience intrigued and interested. They are not doing anything significant (just eating food), but the way they are meant to be perceived by an audience is clear. They are shown as “bodies” doing an activity that can signify something much more sexual.

In this image, there is a movie poster in which a headless woman is depicted, with two men appearing at her sides. The woman’s body is in the center of the frame, but there is a two-shot of the men set as sort of the background. The woman is wearing a tiny red bikini, a symbol of sexualization in our culture, and the men are fully clothed.

This image depicts the male gaze perfectly because it shows just how much men sexualize the female body, while also yearning for anonymity and the objectification of that woman and her body.

In the movie poster, the body of the woman is used to display that this is a movie that will objectify, expose and emphasize the female body, but not the female personality or mind or character. We are focused on the entirety of two men here, and a woman’s body.

1. identify and analyze the mise-en-scene in your image.

This poster is a long shot of Marvel’s Black Widow with a little bit of a low angle shot. While there is destruction and chaos happening in the background, Black Widow is very clearly the center of attention. She is standing with her back facing the audience and she is looking off camera with a blank stare. While all of the action happens in this scene, she is standing still to pose for the camera and show off her curves.

2. Explain specifically why it would be considered "male gaze."

This shot was specifically made to cater to men. Black Widow is contorting her body in a way that doesn’t make sense to only appeal to onlookers. She’s supposedly in an active battle stance but has awkward positioning in a way that would limit her range of movement in reality. Her suit is skin-clad which allows the viewer to see the shape of her body without disruption. She also has a sultry look on her face which is a frequent choice that male directors make for their female characters.

3. Finally, explain the meaning of whatever mise-en-scene techniques you identify.

In the poster, they choose her back-facing pose in a way to accentuate the curvature of her body. It’s a fictional pose that is used only to show off the attractiveness of the character and no male counterpart in the film got this kind of treatment in their character posters. The long shot allows the viewer to see her character in its entirety and take in every physical detail. Even though the poster shows her in the middle of an action scene, she doesn’t seem in the middle of or ready to take action.

They are dressed in slick black clothing and the man seems to have a weapon on his person. They are looking in opposite directions and this photo was taken from a eye level so we can see the setting and the characters full body and outfits.
This is considered “male gaze” because the girl is dressed fierce and prepared to take on the enemy that may stand below them. The male will admire her sexy suit along with her hair blowing in the wind and determination on her face.
Their black clothing makes them seem like their professional and on a mission. They look like superhero’s that are on missions. The city in the background could represent how busy their area is and in theory it is how busy they are. Their weapons also represent a sense of protection and that they will go on missions that require such defense.

1. identify and analyze the mise-en-scene in your image.
This shot is from the movie Fast Five. In this scene - it is a wide angle shot that shows the main characters full body as to others around her. The mise-en-scene in this shot shows Gisele (the lady) walking in slow motion in a bikini to talk to the quote on quote "bad guy" in the film. They did this on purpose to show male gaze and for the women to assert her dominance in a way that is sexual. Also - not many other women are in this shot of her on purpose. Makes her the center of attention.

2. Explain specifically why it would be considered "male gaze."
This is considered male gaze because male gaze is simply when a female character is being sexy on purpose. The first thing Gisele did in order to get what she needed was strip down to her bikini. Next shifted to what I described before in the mis en scene, a slow mo bikini shot to add to the drama.

3. Finally, explain the meaning of whatever mise-en-scene techniques you identify.
The slow mo in the shot adds to her body and the attention to it. it shows only Gisele and Han mainly to show his attention to her. The beach setting makes sense to why she is in the bikini. This male gaze helps to get Gisele what she wants.

1. In this image we are presented with a long shot taken from an wide angle, that not only shows a woman in a revealing bikini but that they are on a beach. The mise-en-scene from this image is Palmer (the woman) walking out of the water in slow motion showing off her body. The purpose of the slow motion was to show her beautiful body and the fact that she is in a relationship with someone much older than her and not really shape.

2. This image would be considered male gaze because her whole body is on display and adding the slow motion just presents her goodies to everyone watching. Another reason could be that she's being portrayed as sexy because she's all water from the water.

3. The use of slow motion adds to her body moving closer to her destination and the eyes that are on her. The long shot uses also adds to people watching her move around.

In this ad for ''jimmy choo'' fragrance called ''man'' there is a man in a medium shot appearing to be protective of the woman and the woman with her body language is acting deferential to the man. 2. this would be considered 'male gaze' because in this image it shows the man as all powerful and cool, basically saying, ''use this perfume and you can be like this guy'' which is perpetuating harmful gender stereotypes. 3. the medium shot and having her face obscured makes it seem to the viewer that she is irrelevant and the man is powerful and the only thing that matters in the image which is again perpetuating harmful gender stereotypes.

1. This shot is from the 2017 Wonder Woman movie. The mise-en-scene in this film features a wide-angle shot that shows the actresses full body as she defends herself against bullets with her shield. The lighting is dim, so we only can see just slightly more than her silhouette.
2. While Wonder Woman was heralded as a "female empowerment" film, the entire production (from advertisements to the movie itself to interviews/reviews/analyses) are fraught with the male gaze. This clip is supposed to be Wonder Woman's moment of power, where she stands up and defends a town of people. But this full-body shot only demonstrates the male gaze. Her costume is the traditional "Wonder Woman" gear that clings to her body shows off her bare arms, chest, and thighs. Her hair is falling down around her shoulders (which obviously wouldn't be ideal in battle). In this shot she is intended to look pretty, not powerful.
3. I feel like the wide angle shot in this moment that is primarily a silhouette is fairly obviously meant to show off the actress' body. Just a few moments after this clip, the actress drops to her knees, which also demonstrates a sense of weakness.
