Tripod

A positive of using a tripod was shown through our footage in our final piece of coursework. A tripod helps to keep the camera steady when filming. We used the schools tripod in multiple shots, such as the establishing shot and the interviews. A clip that shows what happens when a tripod isn't used, is in the clip of our reporter, Saoirse walking. In this shot, the camera is shaky and uncontrolled because we had to walk alongside Saoirse as she walked. A tripod which we could've used would be a SteadyCam, because it would've taken away any of the movement from us walking and stayed straight as we moved along side Saoirse.

When filming all of our shots with people speaking, we used white apple headphone connected to a mobile phone acting as the recording device. We did this so that when filming shots where the speaker is far away, the microphone keeps the audio loud enough for the audience to hear. Before we filmed every bit of the reporter talking, or of people recording vox pops, we connected a phone to the speakers and made them clap before talking. This is so that when we go to edit our footage, we can sync up the audio and the footage easily. However, for mise en scene purposes, we did use a microphone when the reporter was speaking, however it wasn't connected to anything.

We had the option to use the schools library camera, but from my thriller last year, I found that the camera quality of that camera was very grainy and poor. Thankfully, Kye had a camera of his own which was a DSLR Canon eos 100d which ad perfect, sharp and crisp camera quality which made our piece look moe professional from the start.

When editing our coursework together, we used iMac desktops that our school provided for us. This was the best to record on as it had all the software we needed such as Premiere elements, photoshop, after effects and iMovie. It also has very fast internet and is simple to use. The screen is also very big which is ideal as it allowed me to work on multiple things at once, having different applications open and visible to me.

The lens that my group used was a Canon EF 50 mm 1.8 STM Lens. This lens was good because we were able to control the level of focus we had and when we wanted more. However, before we even started to zoom in and out, the beginning level of zoom was very close so some of the shots were very close. This meant that we sometimes had to stand further back from what we were filming as we couldn't zoom farther back.
