St. Cyprian, who lived during the reign of Emperor Diocletian (284-305), was a sorcerer, philosopher and servant of the pagan god Apollo from Antioch in Syria. The people honor him on October 2 for the bright side of his life: his conversion to Christianity, his life of service to Christ, and for the martyr's crown he received as a bishop.

Church books say that Cyprian was a skilled sorcerer: he could unleash wind, thunder and rain, destroy fields, injure people and even talk to the dead. He killed many with poisons and charms, stabbed children as sacrifices to devils, and taught people evil spells. But his life changed completely when he tried to prove the power of his charms against the virgin Justina.
