Communism is an ideology that aims to replace private property and a profit-based economy with public ownership and communal control of the significant means of production (e.g., mines, mills, and factories) and the natural resources of a society. There should be no separate social classes, and everyone should be treated equally.

The Revolutions of 1989 formed part of a revolutionary wave in the late 1980s and early 1990s that resulted in the end of communist rule in Central and Eastern Europe and beyond. The period is often also called the Fall of Communism. When people across Communist Eastern Europe got wind that the Russians would do little to stop the dissent, they began to challenge their own regimes and work to develop pluralist systems in their countries. One by one, like dominoes, Eastern Europe’s Communist regimes began to fall in 1990. One year later, in December of 1991, the Soviet Union disintegrated and ceased to exist. It was the final death knell of the Cold War and marked the end of Communism in Europe

Although Communism has nearly died out in the present time, there are still five countries that remain Communist: China, Cuba, Laos, North Korea, and Vietnam. These communist states often do not claim to have achieved socialism or Communism in their countries but to build and work toward establishing socialism in their countries. It is fair to say that no country in the modern world practices pure Communism as it was practiced in the 1800s. For example, China is not a communist country. Despite the fact that it is a communist country, it is one of the world’s largest economies

It seems to be emerging as the peculiar kind of state capitalism as in China. No rights; rule of men by law, relentless surveillance, loss of social credit replaces Mao as fear factor.

It is collectivist and deeply nationalistic. The “duty of sacrifice” doesn’t have one recipient like the communist state. Instead there is a list of recipients starting from family and covering all the way up to the boss.

The boss is everything in the totalitarian sense. He can be the omnipotent and the naïve school kid simultaneously. His persona is the embodiment of all.

China has a big change as a role model of communism in 21st century

China is not a communist country. Despite the fact that it is a communist country, it is one of the world’s largest economies. In 2004, the country’s constitution was modified to recognize private property, which was one of the major aspects of Communism. People in communist countries are kept in the dark about what is going on in their country, and their voices are not heard. They are even forbidden from criticizing the government’s decisions. One of the main reasons why democracy is preferred is that people’s voices are heard, and their opinions are valued. It isn’t to say that democracy is perfect because even it has its flaws in it.
