Hi I'm Lindsay!
I currently am a special education teacher for 6th and 7th grade math. This is my second year of teaching in a learning/emotional support classroom and am still loving it. Before I started teaching, I graduated from Millersville University in 2016 and began my graduate courses in the beginning of 2018. I also was a substitute teacher for a year after college in Berks County! Since 2016, I have also been working in the summers at the Huntington Learning Center and Sylvan Learning Centers as a part-time tutor for students in elementary school to students beginning college!

Being that this is only my second year of teaching, I have a lot to learn and am eager to learn. I am on the masters track through Gwynedd Mercy University in hopes to gain a deeper insight into all areas of special education than I did in undergrad. The fact that I am already a special education teacher really forced me to learn differentiated strategies, interventions and knowledge of the different disabilities out there much quicker as I can apply this directly to my students now. The picture below is a picture of my classroom!

When I'm not a teacher, I am a loving almost 4 year girlfriend to my boyfriend Anthony. I love cooking and taking care of my three fur babies: Zeus (cat), Teddy (cat) and Theo (bunny). In the summers when I am not tutoring, I like to flip old furniture! I have flipped a lot of furniture that I purchased from old antique shops, took over from friends and useless items from my parents' basement (haha!). I also love traveling over my summers to the Caribbean Islands with my family and have been to: Mexico (4 times), Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Aruba, Jamaica, St. Maarten, St. John and Puerto Rico. My next goal is to travel to either Cuba or Japan!

What I Love Most About Teaching...

I remember when I first began college in 2012, I was originally an engineering major. I had an interest in teaching, but was looking for a job with a higher payout. I found myself feeling like I wasn't going to stick with a job in engineering far out in the future. I remember looking at potential jobs I could do and as the leader that I am, I really felt as though I'd never get to be a leader in such a advanced and technical field. I discovered teaching when I was a sophomore in college and was a math tutor on campus. I loved helping others with their schooling because it made me feel like I was actually making an impact on "someone" and immediately. I helped students of my own age pass tests and learn new study strategies. This was what I wanted to do. Every teacher says that being an educator is about passion not about the money and this may very well be one of the most truest statements I have ever heard. I love being able to be the reason that a student enjoys coming to school or learning math. I love contributing to the reason that a group of students increase their scores on the PSSAs. I love being an IMPACT. That is why I am where I am and love what I do.

Goal #1: I want to close gaps with the students that I am given. Many of my students show up to me in 6th or 7th grade still stuck on the 1st or 2nd grade instructional level and have been sitting on this for the past 3 years. Every year I want to be someone who progresses them close to a whole grade level. While this may seem difficult, I know it's not impossible.

Goal #2: I want to continue to pursue different areas of education for deeper insight (my next area of interest after completing my masters in special education will be in gifted education)
