As I sit here I reflect on my life, I am fortunate, living on Mt. Helix in my wonderful home, I drive to school and attend classes taught by exceptional teachers, I am surrounded by family and friends who love me, and I am free to travel, and seek adventure as I please. I am healthy, I have never been severely injured or ill and if I do unfortunately become wounded or unhealthy I am moments away from a hospital ready to nurse me back to health. I am free, I am an American citizen living in the greatest country in the world whereas I women I am viewed as equal to men, I am granted freedom of speech under the United States Constitution and I am able to visit the astonishing National Parks and other sights of nature that our country has to offer. As I look around the secure bubble I call home I see terror, injustice, and sorrow in society but, surrounding that society I look for beauty; in the mountains, as high as I can see, the white sand covered beaches, the extensive sky-blue lakes, the towering black smoking volcanoes, the vast flower-covered meadows, and the blue ocean stretching as far as the naked eye can view. Again I sit here and I vow to give more and take less; I will give my time, time to clean our beaches and forests, time to travel and enjoy the beauty this world has to offer, and time to relax under the sun that rises and sets everyday so that we can see the majestic nature around us. I will take less, I will take less time wasting my life, I will live with purpose, I will take fewer rocks from streams, fewer grains of sand from beaches, and fewer flowers from meadows and instead, take memories to hold forever. I will give more and take less because this society needs people willing to sacrifice their own desires for others. In this “me generation” I vow to give more of myself to others and to sacrifice my time in order to help those in need. I will take less of others time and instead of wasting it on my frivolous needs, give them an opportunity to use it carefully. I am greeted by the tropical sticky Baja air,
The morning fireball that lays over horizon,
The white sand being warmed by the sun, 
The numberless waves crashing on the shore, 
The old rusting dock,
The boats anchored in the ocean swaying back and forth,
The hard-working fishermen scrambling to get their tackle together, 
The tuna that leaps gracefully hoping to catch a piece of bait to feast on for breakfast,
The early risers that stand next to me in awe of the beautiful day that awaits,

After a long day in Mexico, I again walk outside,

I bid goodnight to the sun that blistered my skin in the heat of the day,
The palm trees that line the beaches,
The music faintly playing an upbeat Mexican tune, 
The late night pool goers heading in to catch some shut-eye,
The spouting fountains being shut off until dawn,
The swells of the sea still crashing on the sand,
