Hanoi, May 13 – Thousands of newly graduated pedagogy students across Vietnam are facing increasing difficulties in securing teaching positions at schools and other educational institutions, according to education experts and recent university data.

Each year, Vietnamese universities produce a large number of teaching graduates, yet public and private schools are not hiring enough to meet the supply. The issue has become more pressing in 2025, as budget cuts, changes in recruitment policies, and a decline in student enrolment in some rural areas have contributed to hiring freezes in many provinces.

Graduates who spent years studying to become teachers now find themselves unemployed or forced to work outside their field. Many blame the mismatch between university admission targets and the actual demand in the education sector.

“I applied to over 30 schools after graduation but received only rejections,” said Nguyen Minh Trang, a pedagogy graduate from Hanoi National University of Education. “It’s heartbreaking to study so hard and not be able to use my degree.”

Experts point out that while there is still a need for teachers in certain regions and subjects, especially in remote areas or STEM disciplines, many graduates prefer to stay in cities, where jobs are limited. Furthermore, some schools now require additional certifications or teaching experience, creating barriers for fresh graduates.
