Hay was convicted due to the shavings found in his razor. The eye witness identified the suspect as a man with with two inch dreadlocks. Hay advised police that  the hair found in the razer was his facial hair, but the police thought he shaved his two inch dreadlocks and flushed the hair down the toilet.
