Psychologists believe that play is an important tool for helping young children develop motor skills, a sense of morality and even "theory of mind." The nature of play changes over time and thus reflects a child’s development. Piaget studied play as a means of understanding a child’s cognitive development, whereas Parten concentrated on a child’s social development. Play and development go hand in hand.
