I’m excited about this course! I love drawing but psyche myself out all the time. Have assembled a bunch of different papers of differing translucence and transparence… will not get into alcohol markers as a former alcoholic… just the smell of them makes me feel like I’m on dangerous ground… but I’m so excited to get into the rest of it.

Aris’ snails with teeth. Hahaha love them. Not sure when I first saw them… a feature on the Jealous Curator? My insta feed? As an elementary science teacher, the absurdity of it just gets to the core of me. As does moving around on your mouth all day….

Was so struck by Jane Davies’ comment on her art chat “how can I surprise myself?” And I think this is a great route to take…

This is so much more fun than sighing over what subject I should focus on….. they aren’t finished… I do need to get ready for work, but believe me… I’m traveling with a purse full of materials so I can keep working. Woohoo

Hello Aris, what a pleasure it is to be introduced to you and your art work! I am in awe and humbled that I have an opportunity to make art alongside of you, Carla and this community. I have had so much fun ('color me tickled pink / so happy'! 😆) with Assignment 1 and though a bit bashful about sharing my work, I am being brave and posting here. Thank you.

There are other Characters I could pull out, but I am stopping here to give myself, the piece and the process some space to work out the story. Is it an adventure or a triathlon? Scrambling and clamoring .... to what end? Or just a bunch of characters? 🤦🏽‍♀️😅

Hello! I've been experimenting and have come up with a few things that I like. I am not happy with it as a "book" yet... I had a lot of fun finding images in the layers but they don't go together very well. I might try to solve that by adding something consistent to each page...probably a flower.

Hi Aris, hope you are having a good week. Before I add pattern, a few questions for you:

(1) Do you have a general practice or strong inclination as to how much "place" vs. character you have on a page (though I do understand you need to balance 'rhythmic' variation page to page to make it interesting....)

(2) How do you best photograph your transparent pages? Especially, when you use Metallic and paint pens? And or double up on pages for the photo?

My Story & Thank you

Hi Aris, I wanted to thank you for a fabulous workshop with generous support and encouragement that deserves a standing ovation. 👏🏽 👏🏽👏🏽 I also want to thank Carla and the talented Community for enabling two weeks of learning, art making and shared collective fun.

I can't remember the last time I drew patterns, so my inner 4-year-old took over and in the self-assured, get on with it way that my 4-year-old self went about life, this is my completed piece...well at least for now... as the adult me is a Muller, who likely will come back and will add more pages / chapters to this piece (to create an entire essay with a book cover! 😂), as the 'story' that showed up surprised me in terms of the topic that showed up as an art piece for me, while delighting me in the wonderful process in which it emerged.

Finally, I am posting my story 🙈 (hope it visually conveys the story) primarily as a way to thank you beyond words for an art experience I will always treasure. I hope there will be other opportunities to make art with you again. 🙏🏽 😊
