The mysterious walking stones of the mud-slick desert of Death Valley, California, have been the subject of scientific controversy for decades. They are rocks of varying sizes and shapes, some weighing hundreds of pounds, that can move for miles and miles for no apparent reason, leaving a trail behind them.
Some scientists have even proposed that a combination of strong winds and surface ice could be responsible for the phenomenon, but that does not explain the cases of rocks that start side by side and move in different speeds and directions. Moreover, the accounts of the physicists also do not beat, since it would take winds of hundreds of miles per hour to move some of the rocks.

When a thick stream of lava cools, it ends up contracting vertically, but cracking perpendicular to the direction in which it flows. This phenomenon happens with a degree of geometric regularity so great that, in most cases, it forms a surprising grid of hexagonal projections that appear to have been made by humans.
One of the most famous examples of this phenomenon is the Giants Causeway, off the coast of Ireland (you can see in the photos below). However, the largest and most recognizable occurrence may be the Tower of the Devil, in the US state of Wyoming. Basalt also takes on distinct and equally fascinating forms when eruptions are exposed to drafts or water.

These dark spots are gigantic and abrupt falls in the underwater elevation that are perfectly visible from the surface when we look from above and compare their tonality with that of the surroundings. These caves may be hundreds of feet deep and some contain fossils that were found in their depths, completely preserved.
With the proper equipment, divers are able to exploit these deep environments, but the low oxygen rate due to poor water circulation causes very little life in these places, leaving them astonishingly empty.

The red tides are nothing more than sudden influxes of enormous quantities of single cell colored algae, which together end up leaving entire areas of an ocean with a blood-red color. Although some of them are relatively harmless, others are carriers of deadly toxins that cause the death of fish, birds and marine mammals.
In some cases, even human beings have already suffered the harmful effects of the red tides, but there are no known cases of people who have died from the phenomenon. Although they may be highly damaging in large pools, the phytoplanktons that constitute them are not dangerous in small numbers.

While many may see these seemingly perfect ice circles as a motive for conspiracy theories, scientists believe they are formed when floating pieces of ice are rotated by circular water currents (known as eddies), formed by strong flows of water passing through Solid objects.
As a result of this rotation, other small pieces of ice accumulate symmetrically at the edges of the block until it turns into a nearly perfect circle. Locations with ice circles up to 152 meters in diameter and even groups of ice formations of identical or different sizes have been found.

Named for monks in the American state of New Mexico who wore extremely pointed hoods, the penitents are incredible natural-formed ice sheets that grow from the ground toward the sun. Most commonly found at high altitudes, they can become taller than humans and take large fields, which are filled with icy spikes.
As the ice melts, small initial gradients are formed between distinct parts of the icy blocks. Over time, these height differences modify the wind's defrosting action and create shadows that diminish the effect of the sun, creating sharp points.

Fire tornadoes can be extremely dangerous, often advancing to great distances and causing destruction and death in areas that would otherwise not be touched by the flames. The phenomenon is usually about 1.5 kilometers high, generating winds of more than 160 kilometers per hour and lasts 20 minutes or more.
