May’s death impacted Zach by making him blame himself. In chapter 10, while Zach was looking at May in her casket, he said to everyone in the room, “I’m sorry,’ he said. ‘It was all my fault,” (Kidd 204). This quote just adds more evidence on why he blames himself for May’s death.

She also gave them beds to sleep in and clothes to change into. I say June as one because she immediately suspected something off with Lily and Rosaleen. She also gave under the breath insults to Lily at random times during the day. She did not accept them in their home.

I think August and Tray are foil characters because Tray is very mean, abusive, and not caring. Tray doesn’t really go and look for Lily this shows he doesn’t care. Unlike August who is a very loving, supportive, and caring. She lets Lily live with her and her sisters. This shows us that August is very welcoming and cares for everyone.

In the “Summer Days” poem, it says, “Tell me what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” This relates to May’s note because it is asking what you want to do or make out of your wild and precious life. May said in her note, “…it’s your time to live. Don’t mess it up.” She is telling her sisters to Live Life Large.

When lily sees that may is dead, she goes through denial and doesn’t want to accept the fact that may is dead. She thinks that after they remove the stone off of may, she will get back up and they will go and dry her off in the house. When doesn't get up, lily became deeply affected by seeing she was actually dead. Lily doesn’t say anything because she is in deep shock but instead she began feeling nauseous and uneasy.
