Open Night/ STEM Expo

OPEN NIGHT - This is how it usually works

What works well?

What could be even better if?

To the email, I have attached a copy of the passport, an example of the passport filled in, a map, and a 2024 promotional poster for the community and student permission forms to present in the evening. Please give any feedback!

Student Helpers

Within Year Levels, please begin to think about which students will be at your stalls during the day and the evening. These students need to be confident to present information and answer questions about the project they completed. The evening is split into 3 sessions and parent permission notes will be sent for selected students.

Sessions are:

5-5:30

5:30-6

6-6:30

Set Up

Each year group has a space in the UCA to set up. They can access Chromebooks/tables etc but each group gets a display board.

Can all year level leaders please send me your requirements for tables or equipment needed in the UCA on the day?

Your year level will need to decorate a display board with supporting documents showing the process your students worked through to get their final design. Boards need to be moved to the UCA the afternoon prior to STEM expo.

Stalls on the night

In regards to OSH email, we usually have stalls for parents to visit that we put on the passport. These are:

School board

P&C

OSH

Happy Kids Club

Specialist classes have an activity

Brendan usually has an activity on the Basketball courts

Tanya usually does a drumming circle outside of the staffroom for students to participate in.

This is usually decided at an admin level as previously the principal has done the liaising around these

Passports and Inquiry Booklets

I have amended the passport students used during open night last year. Here is the location for the shared drive:

S:\AdminShared\All Staff\850 Students\867 Special Events\2025\STEM Expo Open Night\Passports

Staff edit four boxes on it to include activities for students to do in their own classrooms.

There are specialist boxes on there as usually specialists participate - I'm not sure how Nat wants that to look this year? I have asked Chris to provide feedback on what they did last year

The point of the passports were to encourage students to actively do something at the Open Night and not just look through books or wander around. There had been passports pulled out for a prize - cannot remember what this was

Timing

The expo will run for students throughout the day and we have a timetable for classes to attend. Students also present during the day so someone from the STEM committee is given relief for the day to be done there for duty of care over the students presenting.

Last term I sent you the infographics of the changes that had been made for each year group.

When do you think is an appropriate time to send these out? I was thinking once class placements for 2026 have been announced

Do I need to help Marion organise her data day? This probably needs to be done soon, so we can use the data to influence operational plans for 2026.

As we didn't have an operational plan last year, we have no targets to work towards, but I can find previous ones from 2022?

I can also send her through previous examples of how data has been anaylsed?
