I think in-text form changes depending on the medium. Like in the skin project, each word is practically a line because each person was assigned one word. You could view those people like lines or like separate words and it would be hard to decipher since there’s lots of room for different thoughts. Also, for my own final project, I’m going to be working with sound a lot since my medium has to do with nature and referencing sound (like wind/leaves, rocks, water) would be important in my case. It doesn’t have to be, but it can be. I think the relationship between medium and form is very free-flowing and can mean something different to everyone.

I don't see it so much in my own writing because I mainly use digital mediums that I can imagine as other mediums for my purposes. However, I do think that given all of the examples that we've seen that not only can the relationship change how something is read, but it gives the reader context and subtext, it can establish a tone, and it can evoke emotions. Its completely up to the creative whim of the creator which is super cool.

I believe that medium can be a type of form, if used intentionally. It can be used in the same way that a line break is, for example. If one uses a particular medium which is unusual, they are saying something about the text. For example, I think of my poem with the medical mask. On its own, this poem talked about no longer feeling needed in someone’s life. With it being written on the mask, we are given an image to connect it to. With vaccines coming, masks are getting closer to being unneeded every day. The medium comments directly on the text in the same way that a form would.

When something is written in a specific form the message will be viewed or presented differently then it would be perceived in another form. The weight of the words and the meaning behind a text is dependent on the form. I will keep this in mind while I write and while I read.

I think that the relationship between medium and in text form is incredibly powerful because it can take the writing in so many different directions. By choosing a specific medium, writers are giving the audience a specific way to feel. They’re creating the atmosphere for their audience, whereas if you’re writing in text form, there has to be more description involved to keep the reader following in what’s happening throughout the piece as a whole.

The most important things to keep in mind about form as a writer/reader going forward is that the ways to read a poem are endless even if it isn’t meant to be. There’s so many different ways to analyze and think about a poem since everyone reads differently and depending on experiences, they can relate in different ways (connotation/denotation). Form can isolate a section, make something way different from its original meaning, and transform the way someone may feel about the poetry.

For instance, with “Zer000 Excess” we see a book on the outside but the in-text form works in ways well past the norm. One thing in the medium of poetry I always love though is the obedience to rhyme scheme in the in-text form. Coleman’s sonnet has a rhyme scheme that works in the boundaries she pushes with the form in her American Sonnet. Tactically slicing sentences so that they carry over to the next line is effective when conveying her message.
