- The US's economic embargo on Cuba started in 1962. 
- This happened after Fidel Castro, Cuba's leader, overthrew the government and joined the Soviet Union. 
- The purpose was to isolate Cuba. This was so that Cuba could not trade with anyone except for the US and their allies. Recently, in the past couple of years, the embargo has failed. Barack Obama lowered tensions on Cuba, and then Trump strengthened them again. Since President Biden has been in office, there have been protests in Cuba. There has been an embargo on this specific location in the Ukraine since 2014, more specifically because of Russian annexation of the region. After Crimea was annexed by Russia, the U.S. began to place sanctions on the region because of Russia's illegal interference and actions. The US's embargo on Syria started in 2011. This was because Syria was identified as a terrorist country and the US wanted to protect their citizens. Because of this embargo, there was limited interaction between Syria and the US. The sanctions, that eventually an embargo, were placed on the country in response to the development of nuclear weapons, human rights violations, and the country's continued expansion of its military. The latest embargo was placed to prevent Iran from creating a nuclear program in place, similar to the events and embargo in North Korea. The embargo also was created to prevent the expansion of Iran's military, as the embargo focused on arms. The lack of technology that can be used for Iran's oil-focused economy has greatly damaged the market for oil and other exports from Iran.
