What is a Governor?

Governors represent the interests of our members and promote the Trust's work. They have an ambassadorial role and are a link between patients, the public, and the Board of Directors.

Governors have an important role in helping to make our NHS Foundation Trust publicly accountable for its services. Trust Governors:

Hold the Non-Executive Directors to account for the performance of the Board
Represent the interests of members and the public
Appoint (and, where appropriate, remove) the Chair, Non-Executive Directors and the Trust’s Auditor
Approve (or not) any new appointments of the Chief Executive
Receive the Trust’s annual accounts, any auditor report on them, and the annual report at four Council of Governor meetings.

Our Council of Governors has 34 members, 26 elected Governor positions (5 Staff Governors) and 8 Appointed Governors.

Currently, there are 18 elected Governors in post and 3 Appointed Governors, with 13 vacancies.

It is small, with limited funds, and it aims to provide grants that will make a tangible difference to the applicants. A new financial wellbeing app giving access to a toolkit of simple-to-use financial products and services is now available. The Wagestream app will help you track expenses, build up savings and give you more control and flexibility over your money. It includes an option to get paid a percentage of the wages in advance of your pay date.

Please note: If you register with Wagestream you will receive an automated notification from ESR confirming that your bank details have been updated. No changes to your actual bank account or salary have been made, and you do not need to take any action.

Dragon Software

Dragon software can use voice recognition, to reduce the amount of typing required. If this could be useful for you it can be purchased by individual teams via Oracle Smart forms. IT cannot install it without the purchase being made. Once purchased, staff will receive a license code and instructions for how to install the software; IT can assist with the install if there are any problems.

Get the support you need, whilst helping to fight food waste at these Community Food Hub.

Access affordable food, learn low-cost cooking, and find support on a range of social issues. It is open to all, and no referral is needed. Just bring a bag and a suggested donation of £3.50. No one will be turned away.

You are able to access eye tests at Specsavers at no cost to you!

In order to access this benefit, you will need to:

Do a work station assessment with your manager to ensure that risks to your health are identified and can be supported.
Send your request for an eye test voucher to; healthandwellbeing@spft.nhs.uk. Remember to provide your name, email address and assignment/payroll number (this can be found on your payslip and roster).

An eVoucher will be emailed to you, for use in any Specsavers. The voucher will entitle you to a full eye test (to the value of £25), a £49 frame with single vision lenses (VDU work only), £20 discount on any frame in the £99 and above range (for any use), this includes frames included in the two for one offer.

Please note, vouchers can only be issued in advance of an appointment.

Each district and borough will host a UKHarvest community food hub, once a month. For a suggested small donation, people will be able to pick up a wide selection of surplus foods.

Community food hubs are open to all residents, you do not need a referral and are designed to help rescue food from suppliers that would otherwise have gone to waste.

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust warmly invites you to our combined Annual Governor's Meeting (AGM) and Annual Members' Meeting (AMM) on Monday, 23 September, from 10:00 to 13:15. This face-to-face event will be held at our Trust Headquarters in Portland House.

In contrast to previous years, we will start by discussing the new Trust strategy, which will be an opportunity to help shape the Trust's strategic direction.

We will then move to formal business with our Trust Chair, Sean Duggan, Chief Executive, Jane Padmore, and Chief Finance Officer, Usman Niazi. The event will conclude with a showcase presentation highlighting the positive work of our Housing Team, reflections on the Council of Governors and an opportunity for you to ask our Board Members any questions you may have.
