BCPS classrooms will exemplify a learner-centered, customized, and blended environment
powered by digital resources that are accessible anytime, anywhere, by everyone. Below are key points for measure of success of BCPS initiatives. Currently, I am coaching in three Lighthouse Middle Schools (Pikesville MS, Stemmers Run MS, Windsor Mill MS).

Creating a Learner-Centered Environment

Initially when I met with teachers I shared with them my
role in regard to supporting them with BCPS initiatives. We discussed
ways to implement ideas and strategies to reflect a learner-centered
environment. Below are some key points and examples that were discussed/co-planned during our coach meetings. Stressed the importance of creating this environment will take a process and all points will not be established overnight.

1. Giving students a voice and having them be able to share
their learning with each other ( implementing stations, small group instruction,
simulation )

2.Giving students a choice to strengthen their knowledge of a
particular skill using different low or high tech activities (infogrok,
discovery assets, SOS strategies, podcast, debates)

3.Teachers and students should establish time to write and
reflect on what is being learned (journal, back-channel)

4.Provide opportunities for students to be innovative or try
project based learning ( build a roller coaster by viewing a video, simulation
activity, have culminating projects where they create web pages, board
builder, PowerPoint)

5.Allow them to challenge you and ask questions (model for them
how to ask questions that are rigorous)

6.Give students tough challenges and let them
find the solutions (independent and/or small group, using internet)

7.Use online or paper portfolios to document their
self-assessment (OneNote)

8.Connect students' learning ( bringing experts to talk about a
topic, virtual field trips (discovery) video conferencing (famous author) Example:

https://twitter.com/Ms_Dell_science/status/667079348525076480

During my initial coaching meetings with teachers we began with the standards, and identified targeted knowledge and skills at the proficiency level that they taught.

Second, we selected the technology with which they were most proficient and/or willing to dive into integrate it only where it enhances the students' overall learning experience.

Third, I stressed keeping it keeping it simple. After teachers and their students became more comfortable in a technologically-enhanced learning environment, then they can then increase the variety and quantity of technology usage in their standards-based curriculum.

After co-planning and modeling, I often visit classrooms to take video/pictures to document for collaboration with other schools as well as give them recognition of their efforts.
