The Portland Building.
The design, which displays numerous symbolic elements on its monumental facades, stands in purposeful contrast to the functional Modernist architecture that was dominant at the time.

It’s a symmetrical block with four off-white, stucco-covered rectangular facades featuring reinterpreted Classical elements, such as over-scaled keystones, pilasters and belvederes. Furthermore, Graves added symbolism through color—green for the ground, blue for the sky, etc—in order to visually tie the building to its environment and location.

source:
https://www.dezeen.com/2015/09/12/postmodernism-architecture-portland-municipal-services-building-michael-graves/

But in this Dancing House, it is distorted in a way that it looks more like a sculpture (deconstructivist) . Among the designers of this building is afforementioned Frank Gehry. This design is considered out of norm in when it was built(1996) in which Gothic and Art Noveau design is more common at that time.

For me, it looks futuristic enough ahead of it's time . It doesnt really have any traditional malaysian motives since it was built by Singaporean architectural firm. The irregular facade design might gave customers the other-worldly experience since the visual language is pretty much new toward locals at that time.

Among the similiarities i've noticed in both designs are they does'nt really use local motives probably because they are trying to come out with something entirely new and the Gallery was design by Non-local firm. The dancing house during it's designing phase was controversial except to it's president, who entirely support the project. While for starhill gallery, it does'nt really have obvious backlash probably because Malaysian at those times are really into something new. The Dancing House have this fragile look because of its Distorted form while The Starhill Gallery looks Strong and bold with it's sharp corners and straight lines.

Located on Bennelong Point in Sydney Harbour, the complex is really two main concert halls, side-by-side, on the waterfront of Sydney, Australia.

---------------------------------
Found out that the outcomes from the both building is they almost have the same visual style, which is there is also others critics saying that they looked at Istana Budaya as they looked at Sydney Opera House. Both of these building/venue mostly conducting a cultural activities that specifically about cultural activity in their own culture. So i bet there is a lot of visual cultural elements was extracted for visual looks of these building. Based on the characteristic that showed in post modern design, which is fragmentation, these building also comes in diff function from part by part that they have in their building. As from the visualization, Opera Sydney House have a lot of curvature side which is very same with characteristics of post modern style, instead of Istana Budaya which is have more sharp line and there is a visual looked that is only for decorations elements and to make visual statement ( the complex shape derives from cuts and placement of a traditional kite moon flight, “Wau Bulan Kelantan” carcterístico province of Kelantan) that is decorations elements that done only for represent malaysian culture.

According to my observation between these two buildings, I found that Roy E. Disney Animation Building is more asymmetric is term of form while Petronas Towers is more symmetrical. In terms of colors used for the exterior, Roy E. Disney Animation Building have it's colors warm and with some of the decoration using cool colors to give out the contrast. Petronas Towers however is merely using neutral color such as grey.
