My earliest reading memory is remembering my parents reading the Curious George series to me every night before I went to bed. They were my favorite books and I used to love the sayings, such as "George promised to be good, but it is easy for little monkeys to forget" (Rey). The stories were humorous and relatable to my young self.

My first reading shift occurred when I started reading on my own, and the first book I read by myself was "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". Some of the excerpts, like "The Very Hungry Caterpillar ate everything in sight" (Carle) was an idea that I found very funny to read, especially with the pictures in the book showing a fat caterpillar that ate everything in front of it.

I loved reading this series (The Hardy Boys) because it was about kids and young men older than I was and it gave me a role model and an ideal to look up to. I wanted to be Frank, the older brother, because I thought he was a really cool and interesting character. Additionally, some of the quotes, such as "There is no such thing as a clever crook" (Dixon) were very astute and interesting for my young mind to grasp, making this an important shift in my reading level and my maturity in my reading.

One of my favorite book series of all time has to be the Magic Tree House. In this series, I learned a great deal about history and important historical events while also having a fun time reading, making this novel series a quintessential part of my literary life. The alliteration, like "Midnight on the Moon" and "Night of the Ninjas" (Osborne) was something that I remember catching my eye, making this a series that brought me great interest.

Mrs. Collins was my seventh grade English teacher and to this day one of my favorite teachers regardless of the subject. She retired the year after I had her, but she introduced me and my class to hundreds of classics and had us read "White Fang" by Jack London together and it remains as one of the best books I have read. It inspired me to read other works by London, including "People of the Abyss" and "The Seawolf". Furthermore, with the added complexity came new ideas to focus on. Quotes such as, "Fear urged him to go back, but growth drove him on." (London) became so cool in my eyes and I remember finding the book to be such an interesting read because of its inherently powerful nature.
