"Guess the feeling" - Card Game

We played an educational game with our students about emotions. The game involved creating emotion cards by combining hypothetical situations with corresponding emotions. The students were divided into pairs and took turns showing the front of the cards to each other, while the other guessed the emotion based on the given situation. Afterward, they checked their guesses. The conclusion of the game was that all emotions are valid, and it is essential to experience and handle them appropriately when they arise.

Children with autism are very sensitive to surfaces. That's why I created a felt domino. The felt cards are pleasant to touch, easy to pick up from the table, and the raised patterns develop fine motor skills.

House of Emotions - Our handicraft

Initially, in the first phase, we discussed various emotions with the students, which we later explained in more detail. Next, we used cardboard of different colors and drew faces with the basic emotions they experience in their daily lives. The children cut out the faces with scissors, and we laminated them. Then, we created a large house wall from cardboard with a red roof, and the students stuck the laminated faces with emotions on it using post-it notes, so they could move them around as they wished. We named this construction 'Our House of Emotions.

Emotional ''First Aid Kit'' for emotional regulation

Our students made their own "Emotional First Aid Kit" according to their needs. First, we spoke about school and family problems and recognized emotions in different situations. Then, we concluded that every problem has a solution. So, we did brainstorming for techniques that may help students manage stress and negative feelings (social stories for emotional regulation from IEP-INSTITUTE OF EDUCATIONAL POLICY, play dough, painting, puzzles, music, water, break time, diary keeping, etc).
