Another key event of Chernobyl was the destruction the explosion of the nuclear power plant did. It killed 2 people with the main reactor building of the power plant being destroyed. Also, they had to evacuate all the 43,00 residents of Pripyat which took 3.5 hours, using 1,200 buses from Kiev.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-1970: Construction of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant begins&nbsp;<br>-1976: Filling of the cooling water reservoir for the Chernobyl Power Plant begins<br>-1979:The Chernobyl Atomic Power Station reaches its first 10 billion kilowatt-hours of electrical output.&nbsp;<br>-1986, 26 April: Explosion occurs. The reactor reaches 120 times its full power. All the radioactive fuel disintegrates, and pressure from all of the excess steam which was supposed to go to the turbines broke every one of the pressure tubes leading to an explosion.<br>-1986, 27 April: Between 27 April and 1 May, about 1800 helicopter flights deposit over 5,000 metric tons of sand, lead, clay, and neutron absorbing boron onto the burning reactor.</div>]]></description>
