Aqueducts are pipes that carry freshwater to the city of Rome (though not necessarily Rome). They were massive arches that contained fresh water for the people to drink. Fresh water was required to grow Rome as a civilization.

The Julian Calendar was a calendar invented by an astronomer and Julius Caesar that is almost identical to the one that we use today. The only problem was that the solar year on the calendar was different than the actual solar year by 11 minutes, causing a difference of many days as the years went on.

Life was good for wealthy citizens, because they lived in very beautiful houses in hills outside of Rome, away from the noise and the smell. The rich lived an expensive lifestyle with luxurious furnishings, with slaves and servants that tended every of their desires. They would hold dinner parties with exotic dishes. Poor Romans lived in shabby houses. When times were hard, they might have left babies on the streets, hoping someone would take them, they did not have much wealth, but were strong in numbers, and watched the popular entertainment of the time, chariot racing or gladiatorial fights. What they had in common was that the head of the household was a man, and he could decide the fate of his children and who they married. Both the rich and the poor observed the same practices at dinner and also ate the food the same way. All Romans visited the baths after work, and mixed with the other citizens.
