Livingstone & Haddon (2009) note that ‘there a growing number of children and adolescents that have access to and are active on the internet‘(cited in Farington,2018,p2) the difference and complications with online bullying compared with other types is 1 the ‘perpetrator can remain anonymous ’  also there’s a ‘lack of social and physical cues’ and ‘there’s no place to hide’ ( Tokunaga,2013 cited in Farington,2018) .’it can occur day or night’ and leaves the victim with psychological effects like anxiety,depression or insomnia which can lead to self harm or a negative body image and is hard to fully stop

With applications such as filters and photo editing people change what is real. Baudrillard,(1994) discuses  “The generation by models of a real without origin or reality : a hyperreal.” Examples of places that portray this “play of illusion and phantom” is Disney land or Las Vegas where “the real is no longer real but an entangled orders of simulacra”( Baudrillard,1994,p12-13) this postmodern idea suggests that ‘the simulation threatens the difference between true and false,the real and the imaginary”(Baudrillard,1994,p3) . Disneyland for example is a world frozen in childlike fantasy that’s real in the real world of America  but false aspects  and has things from both worlds it creates happiness and joy cause it takes real problems away . The reason this is problematic nevertheless is that people get caught up in a mass hysteria conforming to the false reality .

However there are not always upside as it can create people to be targeted for their looks , race or religious beliefs and these platforms have only recently gotten better at reducing hate ; for example in 2021 instagram updated there hate speech policies and preventions . Buckingham,2008 noted that ‘technology is a driving force for social change that’s also a part of a broader social and historical development’ digital technologies make people have individual identities through phones being connected all around the world . ‘Technology transforming social relations,economy,areas of public and private life’ however this has developed through science growing and new developments, “the history is long Marvin, (1988) suggested that electricity and telecommunications equals discourse for power” which can create business opportunities in other aspects like business/education etc.. ( cited in Buckingham,2008,p11-13) . 
Furthermore there have been growing social hierarchies through technology also new communities and new forms of equality however a downside is extreme addictions like gaming/ porn. ‘Kevin robins desocialized view of tec ignores social history’  but “technological determinism believes that it influences society but it’s beyond the influence of society” (Buckingham,2008,p13-14).
